Winter Training

This weekend brought back; cold weather running. This weather brings back fond memories for me. I started running in January of 2001 in the winter, in Chicago, on the lakefront. So cold weather running brings back fond memoreis of running for me. It reminds me of those days when running was new to me.

NYC Marathon

This year I witnessed how amazing the NYC Marathon can be and the moments it brings out. Although I didn't run the marathon this year, I actually had a more moving experience than the marathon's I participated in. I was running in Central Park at around 8pm and I found a group of lost walkers of the marathon. One of them,EK, insisted on finishing. So I guided her the last 1.5 miles of the course. As we walked, she told me her story. She had run 70 marathons in her life, but never New York.  Now she has a bigger challenge, brain cancer. It was a traggic and emotional feeling .

Umstead 100

Umstead 100, my first try at the 100 mile distance. It was an amazing experience. The most challenging thing I have ever done. I learned a lot of lessons on the course. I thought I had a race plan to get me through. I arrived in Raleigh on Thursday evening on the same flight as Emmy, Cherrie, and Cherrie’s mom. Arrived at the Hampton Inn, without a car. Took the shuttle to the Noodle Shop, for the first of 3 visits to the noodle shop. After dinner went back to my room to watch some baseball,Giants vs. Dodgers for the nightcap of opening day of the baseball season. My plan was to sleep in Friday, but the shades in the room wouldn’t close all the way and it was too late to sleep past 8:30. Woke up, went to breakfast and then decided to try to sleep again.
